Mathodical: Daily Mathematical Crossword

This Privacy Policy describes how Mathodical (“we”, “our”, or “us”), operated by Sagar Punjabi, collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Service at mathodical.fun. We are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and other applicable Indian laws.

We collect the following categories of information:

Account Information

When you register, we collect your email address and, if you sign in via Google, your name and profile picture as provided by Google. We do not store passwords directly — authentication is handled by Supabase.

Gameplay Data

We store puzzle submission records including the puzzle date, whether you solved it correctly, your time taken, and your current and best streak. This data is associated with your account and used solely to provide statistics and streaks.

Usage and Analytics Data

We collect anonymised usage data including pages visited, session duration, browser type, device type, operating system, and approximate country or city (derived from IP address). This is collected via PostHog and Vercel Analytics. Your IP address is used only for geolocation and is not stored directly.

Local Storage

We store your in-progress puzzle state (grid values, timer position) in your browser's local storage so you can resume mid-game. This data never leaves your device and is cleared when you sign out or when the puzzle date changes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to: (a) provide and operate the Service, including calculating streaks and statistics; (b) authenticate your identity when you sign in; (c) understand how the Service is used so we can improve it; (d) detect and prevent technical issues or abuse; and (e) communicate with you if you contact us. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal data to any third party.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Mathodical. Each has its own privacy policy governing its data practices:

Supabase — Authentication and database. Stores your account and gameplay data on servers in the United States. supabase.com/privacy

PostHog — Product analytics. Collects anonymised usage data. posthog.com/privacy

Google — OAuth sign-in. If you use “Continue with Google”, Google shares your name and email with us under Google's OAuth terms. policies.google.com/privacy

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us at the email below and we will action your request within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), row-level security on our database, and authentication managed by Supabase. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and applicable law, you have the right to: (a) access the personal data we hold about you; (b) correct inaccurate personal data; (c) request erasure of your personal data; and (d) withdraw consent to processing at any time. We use essential cookies for authentication (to keep you signed in between sessions). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Analytics data is collected via JavaScript rather than cookies where possible. By using the Service, you consent to the use of essential cookies.
